WHY GAIN A SKILL? - Marriet Ify

Are you skill shy or a school dogmatic?
This article will question your beliefs, set you up to see that your skill set and abilities, are as important as your name.

Education is for all. Having a skill is a thing for all to consider. But not many know this.

The society will rather have you work your entire life for them and get underpaid for lack of skill, than educate you on relevant skills for the work space. It might just be a conspiracy.

Volunteering

Growing up we are told to discover our true self. The advice never stops resounding. Everyone seems to know the benefit but not everyone can really explain the step-by-step of self discovery.

A wise man advises  "know thyself".

You are not taught this in school. If you were taught this in school, then at least 40% of the classes we attend would be centered on self discovery.

Self discovery is the prerogative of every human.

This need to discover self is not ascribed to young adults alone. Even the 'grownups' seem to be scrambling in the dilemma of finding their true self.

WHAT IS VOLUNTEERING

Simply put, "it is going out of your way to see things done without gratification." Helping out with a task without the money-motivation"

It is true that the act of Volunteering makes it easy for one to discover self.
Selfdiscovery is tied to a lot of things, and volunteering is one of those things.

Not only do you get to do good to people and the society at large, you also increase your network.
Network is a crucial part of any business. Whether or not you agree, we all need people as much as we need air.

Every business that is thriving or not is as a result of the network of people, be it customer base or workers base.

Volunteering brings you in contact with potential clients as well as more good people to help.

Volunteering also increases self-esteem.
When you see that you are meeting the needs of people around you, your self-worth increases. The way you perceive yourself changes for good. And since people see us the way we see ourselves, we begin to take a new outlook in the eyes of those around us.

Volunteering increases versatility.
Since it is your goal to solve people's problems, you tend to pick or acquire skills relevant to their needs, and by so doing, you increase your skill set, and the value you bring to the market.

And remember,  YOU CANNOT EARN MORE THAN THE VALUE YOU BRING TO THE MARKET. - JIM ROHN

There are a lot of benefits that accrue to you when you volunteer.
More youth should volunteer.

Buffer: Why we share - A guide to more shareable content

psychology of facebook
Why we like, share comment and keep coming back

I was on twitter this morning after a nice breakfast of yam and garden egg sauce and I stumbled on something that got my breakfast cold before I was done reading. It is quite interesting to find stuffs like this because it enlightens you and broadens your scope when posting on your social pages and blogs.

Excerpt:

The New York Times did an awesome study on why we share a few years ago that remains one of the most informative on the topic of social media sharing. This study identified five major drivers for sharing:
  • To bring valuable and entertaining content to one another. 49% of respondents say sharing allows them to inform others of products they care about and potentially change opinions or encourage action.
  • To define ourselves to others.  68% of respondents said they share to give others a better sense of who they are and what they care about.
  • To grow and nourish our relationships. 78% of respondents said they share information online because it enables them to stay connected to people they may not otherwise stay in touch with
