The traditional rulers
from Edo Central senatorial district will be meeting the leadership of All
Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, this weekend to convince the
members of the Edo State House of Assembly to return the speakership to Edo
Central senatorial district.
His Royal Highness Ehidiamen Aidonojie 1, the
Onojie of Opoji and 1st Vice Chairman, Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers
and Chiefs, who disclosed this to journalists, yesterday, said after the
meeting, the traditional rulers intends to meet with the state caucus leaders
of the APC and immediate past governor of the state, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, to
assist them speak to the new leadership of the House led by Speaker Kabiri Adjoto,
to balance the political tripod in the state.
According to His Royal Highness, “We are going to
meet this weekend Esan traditional rulers to deliberate on the matter and after
that we intend to meet with Oshiomhole, who had in the past helped Esan people
to retain the speakership after Victor Edoror was removed.” Faulting the
earlier meeting of some traditional rulers from Edo North and Central on the
issue, His Royal Highness, said that it was not the duty of traditional rulers
to interfere in matters relating to the politics of the state House of
Assembly, saying that what should have been done was to appeal to the immediate
past governor of the state, Oshiomhole “who is the APC state caucus leader to
talk to them.”
“I am
a traditional ruler from Esan land, so nobody can love Esan land more than me.
I have spoken to my colleague traditional rulers from Esan and I was informed
that only seven of them were at that meeting and none of them knew the agenda
before they went there.”
