As far back as 1998 i met a young girl lying helplessly on a bed of roses bidding me to enter. She said nothing as she laid there almost healthy. She laid there bidding me to come in and not until now, i never knew what the deal was.
As a child I dreaded places of this sort. Hospitals with smell the fragrance of death itself.
Her family had just left the room after showering her roses the colour of compassion. I saw the tears drop from her eyes and as i turned to leave, she gave a deep sigh.
I still see her calling on me to forget whatever I have been told of her. Maybe she wanted me to tell her a goodnight story as she falls asleep. Or maybe she wanted to tell me about all the fun she had had in her short stay here and how grateful she was of the short time well spent. Maybe she didn't like the look of pity in my eyes. Maybe she wanted to undo all the lies I chose to believe of how she is going to die of cancer. Maybe I didnt know that was going to be her last wish.
My heart wanted to enter that room that night but my head summoned dead thoughts of how that she was a stranger no one dared approaching. I was oblivious of all she went through and didn't think I was safe approaching her. Maybe the thorns were responsible for the death-trip she made minutes later after I turned to leave. Or maybe that's the only excuse to escape the guilt I feel in the backyard of my soul.
