I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it. Mark Zuckerberg
Initially, Facebook avoided the dislike option as
to avoid being too similar to Reddit, in which posts are down and
up-voted. However, they felt it was time to introduce a response that
expressed feelings other than just liking.
I've always felt a bit weird when I've seen a sad
status on an account of a mate, "Do I like it to show support? Does that
look insensitive?" This new option now allows the user to express
empathy... Or just pure negativity which, if we're honest, is the real
reason why we all want this button.
Facebook have been working on the button for a while and the ETA is "soon" - which doesn't really give much away.
We look forward to your dislikes, internet.
