CBN Extends deadline for BVN Registration

Bank Account Owners converge for BVN registration

With the recent delay in banking activities as a result of the Bank Verification Number registration, CBN has decided to extend the deadline for the registration as against 30th June which was formerly stated.

CBN Director, Banking and Payment System Department, Mr Dipo Fatokun, in attempt to rise to the occasion, in a circular issued today in Abuja, said, “It has come to our notice that the BVN registration has elicited tremendous interest from the Nigerian bank customers who crowded the banking halls in order to beat the deadline.
“In view of the foregoing, it has become imperative for the banks to extend the timeline for all customers to have the BVN.
“The deadline for the enrolment is hereby extended from June 30 to Oct. 31,’’ Fatokun stated.

However, some of the bank staffs complained that customers had been reluctant about registering for the BVN.
In an interview with a Staff of one of the commercial banks, he said ''this registration has been on for a long time now and the bank account owners did not take it serious. Nigerians like deadlines and as such the consequence is being made to stand under the sun for too long.''

Mr. Chuka, one of the customers made to stand under the sun complained of the amount of days he had spent in trying to register for the BVN.
''We have been here for a long time'' he said, ''anyone that is coming to register today, would have to wait till three days later because some of us that are being attended to, have been here for three days now.''
