Dating for dummies

If you are a young lad and are in a time in your life when it feels like the right time to get 'hooked' as many would call it, then you should consider these things I am going to say in few words.

What are they saying?

Dating has been given a lot of definitions both by experts and dummies like yourself. Some have said it is a period where you get to know the one with whom you have decided to get hitched. Others consider it as the 'going-to-the-restaurant' season of the relationship, where you talk about random stuffs. They believe it is in this time the guy sees if the girl is able to use the cutleries, vis a vis. These are the usual responses you get from friends and people who care to give their opinion. For all kinds of definitions, the purpose for dating has been to see if the person is a suitable partner for a romantic relationship leading to marriage.

Why all the name calling?

By 'dummies' I do not intend it for an insult of any sort. It is just a term used these days to show one who is stepping into a phase or knowledge they don't have prior understanding of. You and I may have taken a couple of words out of context. It is okay. But let's start using the dictionary to know the meaning of words for what they represent and not for what society has made them. Just like dating doesn't translate "being in a relationship," we should know that the word "dummy" doesn't mean an insult.
This is who you are, at least, until you finish reading this article. Moreover, I am not the first person to call you this.
Joy Browne, the author of Dating for Dummies, found the word a suitable one for people who are looking to step into the dating arena for the first time. She believes that dating doesn't have to be "nerve-wracking," but one has to be equipped with the right information while stepping into it.

Why do we bother?

Dating is important because no one intends to jump into a river without first considering whether or not there are predators. It is always important that you look before you leap. You should enquire about your prospective partner and get to know if you can deal with their baggage.
According to Joy Browne "You must do some up-front soul searching to make sure you’re ready to be honest, open, and attentive. You need a strong sense of your dating expectations so you can clearly communicate what you’re looking for without setting the bar so high that no one can clear it. You must be cautious about how and where you meet potential dates, especially if you’re looking online. And you should remember that a date is just a date — and it can actually be fun! Whether your long-term goal is to get married and start a family or to set sail around the world in a sailboat built for two, you start in the same place: on a first date."

Love at first sight?

There is no such thing as love at first sight. There are people you have met, and at first sight, you are attracted to them; that isn't love. "Na when dem show you their true colour na that time we go know whether na love or na infatuation." That came out fine right?
Do not be deceived, it is always wise to speak with those you perceive as knowledgeable in this dating thing before you jump at it. And also, be wise not to base your expectations on the experiences of others. Remember the words of Joy Browne:"Remember that a date is just a date, and it can be fun."

Fairytales are for fairies

a shot from one of my fav movies

Fairytales are for fairies. Yes! These stories are told to water the buds of young girls, aren't they? If you did English in school you can tell from the name: fairytales, just like Nigeriantales, Africantales...

I know you too want one of those fairytale love. Where we hear too much details of how prince charming woos Cinderella and soon she falls "head over heels" for him. If you were critical like I can be, you will think she is the 21st century slay queen, wearing sneakers, only that this slay queen isn't tripping head over heels for the 'prince charming. She simply falls because she didn't tie her shoe lace well.

Bimbe!

Bimpe! Mum called out as she half carried and dragged Michael to the front door. Bimpe! She screamed again still no reply. What was she to do? Her only son was dying and her daughter was too obsessed with her grieving to help. Tola could hear the loud music coming from her daughters room, so she knew it was useless to try and shout any more. She had to find a way to get Michael to a doctor and fast. Life had gotten so hard in six months than it had been her entire life

President Buhari Signs Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill into Law

You and I know that there is no excuse not to get registered and pursue your political goals.
President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill into law.

The Bill was signed into law at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, barely two days after President Buhari had promised to do so.
This promise was made by the president in his Democracy Day speech on Tuesday.

The law reduces the age qualification for president from 40 to 30; governor from 35 to 30; senator from 35 to 30; House of Representatives membership from 30 to 25 and State House of Assembly membership from 30 to 25.

Hey guys, knot your ties and wear you hats, dust your voters card. It is time to vote some oldies out of office.

"Love is an excuse to..."

"Love is an excuse to go on with life."

When you love with reckless abandone, you sometimes forget that time is slowly passing away. You sometimes feel there is no much time to do all the things you dreamt as a child. So you soon begin to try out all that you were told by your adult friends.

If you have suffered a heart break before, then you know what this lady meant by "love is an excuse to go on with life."

This kind life

That night was a cold night, it had just rained and her life was fast coming to an end.

She stood by the window looking in the distance for herself. "I hear people say beautiful things about their mothers..." She turned to look at me. There was nothing to say to put out the chaos starting on her face. "I never did have a mother. As a young adult, I learnt too soon to be a mother and a husband to women whose husbands did not care..." She continued.

Somehow, she had grown old too early. When you look at her from behind, she looked like a beautiful girl, but her front view reminded you of your  grandma; remember when she came into the room wrapped in her favourite wrapper.

"Even my mother forgets that I am her child." She added.

She turned to return to the window like she forgot something. "I am tired of caring..." Wiped the tears ruining her make up. "See the beautiful sun is retiring behind that cloud... A cloud of doubt, maybe. Seems it is about to rain again... see, even the sun is scared of the rain..." She said like one who has no care for beauty. If she did, she would have noticed the beautiful  scene coloured by the gods...see how beautiful the cloud looked.
She turned to look at me like she had forgotten I was sitting in the same room with her and that we had been engaged in a conversation before now...

"Even the cloud is full of doubt" she said like a barren woman wondering in her fleeting thoughts.

"What were we talking about please?"

"Nothing" I said.
